An important occasion that commemorates the history, accomplishments, and continuing legacy of Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS) is the annual celebration of the school's founding. It provides an opportunity to consider the development of the school and honor the work of its founders. Among students, faculty, alumni, and the community, this celebration builds pride and school spirit.

The occasion also showcases the talents and diligence of the school's faculty and students, as well as its academic, cultural, and extracurricular accomplishments. The celebration strengthens the bonds between the schools and the neighborhood by uniting current and former students, promoting cooperation and involvement.

Breaking Through the Fourth Wall

     For the remaining months of this school year, there were still so many things that I had learnt. Just like in ICT 10, who knew we could create a homepage using Microsoft FrontPage? And we could also insert interactive buttons, shapes, and texts to make it more aesthetic and pleasing to use for the viewers. I also learned a lot in my other subjects like Filipino and Math.

 

    Even when I gained a lot of knowledge from other subjects, I had trouble understanding some concepts in Science especially that we are tackling chemistry. I can definitely say that chemistry is my least favorite among the 3 main branches of science. I also faced problems with my procrastination as I had some nights without sleep.

 

    So, in order to address that problem, I had to reset my body clock and lock in because I know that there was no way I’d survive this quarter without changing anything about my routine. I also became more open to how I am so puzzled about naming chemicals, so I asked my seatmates to explain to me the concept and answer my questions. It helped me a lot and became more attentive in class.

    Moving on, I will use this experience as a guide because in 2 months, I will already be in Senior High School, tackling STEM subjects that will be harder because it is new and not what I am used to. Luckily, the Science, Technology, and Engineering Program prepared me with science subjects.

Who Would I Be 15 Years From Now?

"How do you see yourself 15 years from now?" 

    Pondering questions like this make me go insane. Just the thought of me needing to decide for my future is scary because what if the path i choose is not the right path for me at all? They tell me to choose what I want to be, but I want to be so many things, yet my problem is, will I be able to handle it?

    Growing up, i have always wanted to be a doctor so when i entered high school, my homeroom guidance modules were always filled with the dreams of this little girl inside me, expressing how much she wants to help and treat people. But that dream slowly faded away, so i thought "2 years from now, i'll be graduating high school, hopefully as an UPCAT or DOST-SEI passer," so i still have 13 years' worth of future to think about. Scary, I can't see my future but i won't stop dreaming. 

    15 years from now, maybe I'm a successful veterinarian working under the government or have my own clinic. I'll be treating different animals and be thanked by their cuteness. It's also possible that i won't go to the field of medicine, maybe i'll choose architecture? or maybe aviation? Only the future Germayne would know. But one thing for sure is that I hope to be alive. Alive and kicking, if that's the term to use. I hope that the 31 years old Germayne would give her parents the life that they deserve.

    The third month of the year is the month in which Gender Equality and Inclusivity is greatly commemorated. The theme "WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society" is a reminder of the fact that having a just and equal society in today's world is the same as having peace among all because it is an effort made by not only one person but by all. So in order to achieve this theme, we must assume that gender equality is for every person who enjoys the same right regardless of being male or female. We need to assume that in order for them to attain gender equality, they should be provided with equity in all possible opportunities and treatments there are in life whether these are in studies, health, employment, or society. WE need a society where everyone would feel secure and liberated. It is vital to me as a student because gender equality and inclusiveness must be understood and learned better when one is younger so that they can practice it as they mature.

    It is vital to an equal society where opportunities are distributed equally in that everyone can have something to offer in terms of a brighter and innovative future. And in order to be able to end discrimination, either due to their gender or race, we need to develop a society that is inclusive in nature so that their potential is not capped to form a progressive society for all. And to help make the change, we students can do tiny things which would amount to much to everyone like showing respect towards each other, demolishing gender stigmas, being well-informed regarding simple facts which amount to much particular gender equality and motivating one another for given opportunities. In doing this, we can establish a good atmosphere on gender equality and inclusive society.

My Valentine

    February 14 is a day meant to celebrate and express love called Valentine’s Day. A day where we give gifts such as flowers and chocolates to our friends, family, and special someone to show how we really care and love about them. A simple dinner or small notes that says, “Happy Valentine’s Day!” or “I Love You” is enough. And this day isn’t just for those who have a Valentine, it’s for everyone!

    But this day isn’t just about the materialistic things that we give them; it’s also about how we make them feel loved and special. And remember that February 14 is not the only day to express you love to your special people, but we should do it every day.

   This day can simply be celebrated through actions and words which we can show our gratitude, affection, and kindness to our loved ones. For me, giving gifts, romantic dates, love letters and cards, and self-love and friendship celebrations. But these won’t matter as long as we make them feel loved and appreciated.

Intayon, Ilocos Sur!

    Every January, Ilocos Sur celebrates its rich history and heritage with the vibrant Kannawidan Festival. The founding of Ilocos Sur in 1818, a significant turning point in the history of the area, is commemorated by this festival. Traditional dances, music, and artwork that have been treasured and handed down through the generations will bring the province's cultural essence to life. Experience regional favorites like sarsuela performances and the tinikling dance, which showcase Ilocos Sur's distinct cultural identity. This yearly occasion guarantees that Ilocos Sur customs are honored and conserved for upcoming generations.

 

    The Kannawidan Festival showcases Ilocos Sur's indigenous crafts and goods in addition to cultural performances. The festival features displays of the province's famous burnay pottery and inabel (handwoven fabric). Visitors can savor real Ilocano flavors by indulging in local specialties like longganisa and empanada. In addition to promoting Ilocos Sur's artisanal heritage, this celebration of regional goods helps local business owners and artisans make a living. By attracting tourists and visitors who are keen to experience the province's cultural offerings, the festival provides a significant economic boost.
